About me
I’m Derek Malone.A photographer based in Dallas, Texas.
I spend my working life in medicine, and my traveling life behind a lens. The two fit together more neatly than you’d think — both are mostly a matter of paying close attention to people.
Wherever I go — San Francisco, San Diego, up into the mountains — I’m always drawn to the landmarks. And then, every time, to the people standing in front of them. A couple laughing at nothing in particular. A family wrangling three kids into a photo they’ll still have in thirty years. A quiet moment between two people that nobody thought to capture, least of all them.
Those are the pictures that matter to me. I don’t stage them, I don’t interrupt them, and I don’t sell them. If I handed you a card, it’s because I watched one of those moments happen to you — and I wanted you to have it.
